Insurance Claim Process
Your first instinct should be to contact your insurance company to begin the
claims process. Filing a claim is super easy and can be done either by phone or
online. The insurance company’s claims department toll-free telephone number
should be listed on your “Proof of Liability” insurance card. They will ask for:
Policy Number, Year, Make, Model and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of
your Hail Damaged Vehicle(s), Date and approximate time of the Hail Storm,
Address or Nearest Cross Streets where damage occurred, and finally the area
of vehicle that was damaged (Usually all over the Vehicle). Your insurance will
generate a claim number associated with the hail damage loss. If they don’t
offer to give you a claim number, ask for one. This number is very important for
repair facilities and rental car companies.
We work with all insurance companies and have good relationships with local
agents.
Many people are hesitant to file a claim for fear of their insurance policy costs
going up. Insurance companies classify claims into two different categories: (1)
Collision, and (2) Comprehensive. Insurance will not cover hail damage if you
have liability-only coverage. Hail Damage is a comprehensive claim and is
considered an act of God. Acts of God will not never raise your individual
insurance rates. * The rates in the state of Colorado have since gone up
because the weather.
Damage from two hail storms can total a car which could have withstood one
hail storm with repairs in between. You do NOT want to wait for the next
hailstorm to hit before getting your vehicle repaired.
